Invitation: India International Battery & Energy Storage Expo 2025

INFOR will exhibit in Hall 3 at the 2025 India International Battery & Energy Storage Expo on 30 October, with an overview of India's EV and battery market.

The 2025 India International Battery & Energy Storage Expo opens on 30 October 2025, bringing together professionals from across the lithium battery supply chain. It covers battery technology, energy storage solutions and EV applications, with conferences and seminars where industry experts share frontier knowledge, broadening horizons and promoting innovation across the industry.

You are invited

INFOR will exhibit in Hall 3, showing our advanced bead mill processes and application cases and presenting our development plans for India. Friends who want to learn about the Indian market are welcome to join us there.

As a potential consumer giant, India's EV market has great potential. INFOR is actively expanding in India and has established cooperation with several organizations. With more than ten years of advanced material production line technology and experience, we can design and build fully intelligent lines and provide technical support to Indian companies using high-quality process resources from China.

India's new energy vehicle market

India's EV sales grew 20% in 2024 to about 100,000 vehicles, 2.5% of total vehicle sales. The base is small but growth is significant, and the government plans to raise the EV share to 30% by 2030. BloombergNEF forecasts that sales could exceed 200,000 in 2025, with a five-year CAGR of 59%.

The Indian government has played a key role with comprehensive, targeted policies covering production, consumption, infrastructure and core battery manufacturing, aimed at cutting emissions, reducing oil dependence and strengthening manufacturing.

India's power battery demand was about 15 GWh in 2024, with local capacity of about 6.7 GWh and the rest imported. In 2025 major lithium battery investments will begin production, including Exide's Bengaluru lithium battery project (6 GWh), Tata's Agratas (20 GWh planned), Reliance's battery business (5 GWh planned) and Amara Raja Energy, licensed by Gotion, which is about to build a battery plant. Despite many projects, production takes time, and batteries and cells are still mainly imported.

India has begun searching for minerals worldwide: state-owned KABIL has mining rights to five blocks in Argentina and is seeking stakes in Australian lithium projects. Technical breakthroughs will depend on cooperation with Chinese and other international companies, introduce, absorb, re-innovate. India currently has no lithium carbonate refining capacity, imports cathode materials from China, and its battery manufacturing supply chain is just beginning.

Local companies such as Tata Motors and Mahindra dominate the Indian EV market, with Tata leading thanks to a broad line-up (Nexon EV, Tigor EV and others) and more than 60% of sales in 2024.

International brands are moving quickly: MG grew 125% in 2024, BYD entered the top four with competitively priced models such as the Atto 3, and VinFast and Tesla plan to expand in India, Tesla has started hiring a local team and plans a charging network. Many Chinese companies are also planning Indian plants, which will increase over the next few years.

India's pain points include insufficient charging infrastructure, only 25,000 chargers at the end of 2024, about 20 vehicles per charger, and dependence on imported batteries, with limited local capacity, about 80% imported and high costs, so the local supply chain must be built faster. Overall, India's EV market has enormous potential, but charging and battery cost bottlenecks must be solved to reach its long-term goals.

Market acceptance is a further challenge. Indian consumers are price-sensitive and combustion cars are usually cheaper, and limited public awareness means many potential buyers do not understand the benefits of EVs. Becoming a major EV producer will require major efforts in technology, infrastructure and market development.
